Movie playlist for girl power

Being a woman is hard. To be considered successful, you have to be all of this: a mother, a wife, and an achiever in your chosen field. It's overwhelming sometimes. I'm definitely sure that at one point we all asked ourselves "is it even possible to be the kind of woman this generation expects us to be?". Relax. Let's cut every woman some slack. Most of the pressures we have, we placed it upon ourselves. Personally, I think that the best way to cope is to let go all our expectations and simply start doing the best that we can to play all our parts as a mother, wife and a woman. We'll figure it out along the way.

Anyway, if you still find yourself lost, watch these movies for some inspiration that will empower you and make you embrace your inner feminist.

1. The Dressmaker

This is a movie about transformation. The story revolves around Tully (Kate Winslet), a dressmaker, who after being banished in their small town returned to seek revenge and closure with only her haute-couture skills and sewing machine in hand. Watch this and see how a good makeover brings change to a person's physical and personal qualities.

Watch out for: Every vintage fashion makeover that Tilly did for the women in her neighbourhood and all the Liam Hemsworth topless scenes. #yummy

2. Under The Tuscan Sun

This is not a story about finding love but rather an empowering tale about bouncing back and loving yourself. The story is about Frances who winds up buying a villa on her trip to Tuscany after her devastating divorce. As she rebuilds her home, Frances gains a better sense of her self. She discovers that the life and love that she wants could still come true, only this time it's not dependent on any man.

Watch out for: The breathtaking scenery of Italy makes you want to pack your bag and go for a solo trip.

3. Joy

This movie is perfect for all budding women entrepreneurs. The movie is about a low-class, single mother who became the founder of a successful family business dynasty. It sends out a powerful message about keeping one's perseverance and tenacity despite all the challenges life throws at you.

Watch out for: Jennifer Lawrence's superb acting. Seriously, I can't imagine any other actress portraying this role.

4. Julie and Julia

Going through a quarter life crisis? This movie is for all the ladies who feel stuck either in their career or life in general. The film is a true story of two women, Julia and Julie, who never met and yet whose lives were intertwined by a book and 524 recipes. This is a story about finding your bliss and embracing your passion despite all odds and limitations.

Watch out for: Julia Child's recipes would make you want to rush out and sign up for a culinary school.

5. Erin Brokovich

Watch this if you think your life is a series of unfortunate events. Erin Brokovich is a single mom who landed a job as a legal assistant and single-handedly spearheaded a fight against a California giant corporation that's polluting the water system. Erin would teach you how to be unapologetic for being your true self and standing your ground for the things you believed in.

Watch out for: Erin's comedic lines and witty comeback that would wake the inner activist in you.
